We are adding a new "Upgrades" category, in order to be more in touch with our users about issues that only affect them indirectly. Upgrades, or tech debt, are a great example of important-not-urgent... unless they're ignored for a long time, and start fires which do become urgent! Upgrades also introduce the risk of bugs, and do not provide any value visible to the customer — except for long-term reliability. Our app has been around for over 13 years, and has therefore accumulated a lot of tech debt. The new engineering team has already resolved a lot of it — for example, upgrading our MySQL to 8.0, which required some recent scheduled downtime. We will now use Canny to communicate when we are doing upgrades.
